Born in the Hampton Roads and raised in Virginia’s capital. Matthew’s passion for giving back to the youth in the community is tied to his upbringing and basketball. He grew up in a house of four with his mom and three siblings. His passion and purpose started when he saw his mom always put those around her first, and his sister worked hard to provide for the family, helping their mom. Basketball came fairly late to Matthew as he started playing at 13, leading to playing in high school and travel ball known as AAU. Matthew graduated from Thomas Dale High School in 2017 and pursued playing basketball in college. He played 2 years at the JUCO level at SUNY Broome Community College in Binghamton, New York, where he studied Human Services and received an associate degree in Individual Studies. He is currently in college pursuing a bachelor’s degree in social work. He began his journey helping the youth in the community with his time at Progressive Community Outreach as a Therapeutic Mentor. His time at Progressive helped bring forward ideas and pursue opportunities to help the youth. He began to seek opportunities such as coaching in the Petersburg Youth Summer League Basketball and stints with AAU teams as a coach. The latest opportunity was coaching at Charles City High School as JV Head Coach/Asst Varsity Coach, helping the Girls' Basketball team reach regionals. ACROSSTHEBOARD is his latest effort to help the youth in communities.
